Why we hand-strip wire coats
5 Aug 2026 · 4 min readWire-coated breeds grow a coat that naturally 'blows' and needs removing, rather than cutting.
Hand-stripping gently removes the dead hair from the root, making room for a healthy new coat to come through.
Clipping cuts the hair instead, which over time can leave the coat soft, fluffy and faded in colour.
It takes longer, but most dogs find it relaxing, and the result is a coat that stays weatherproof and true to the breed.
Briony has years of experience hand-stripping terriers, schnauzers and spaniels. Ask us if it's right for your dog.
